Hello and welcome to my blog! This is a project to help me document my journey in learning to cook and live a healthy lifesytle. Food is a passion of mine and I am always trying to challenge myself to eat and create new dishes.

My relationship with food has been entangled with my life-long struggle to maintain a healthy weight. For many years, I limited what I could eat (or how much), thinking this was the only way to stay healthy. Discovering that I enjoy exercise as much as eating was a liberating discovery. The two are interlocked in my life and so this blog will also chronicle how I continue to evolve  the fitness component of healthy living.

I am by no means an expert chef or a superior athlete (hello, 15-minute mile) but I love the pursuit of good health and this gives me reason to experiment with different styles of eating and exercise.

I am also newly engaged!!!!! While it was never my intention to chronicle this aspect of my life for all the world to read, it’s going to be a major part of the next few years of my life and it would be unfair to leave it out of the fun.

And now for a little about me…

I am a recent college grad from Chapman University with a degree in Psychology and Film Studies. Why both? I applied to Chapman for the Film Production program but that did not work out. I ended up there anyways to study my back-up major, Psychology, because it was the best school I had been admitted to (don’t get me wrong, it’s a great school). I decided to apply again to the Film school once I was admitted but something in me spoke up and urged me to keep the Psychology major. With too many credits required for the Film Production program to do both, I elected Film Studies instead and was admitted with a dual major that Spring.

Toward the end of those four years, Psychology became my favorite of the two and I fully intended to attend graduate school for a Masters and possibly a Ph.D later. I was admitted to Clarmount Graduate School to study Cognitive Psychology but ended up staying at my current job with a local magazine in Orange County. After 19 years of school, I think I just needed a break. After a hectic change of pace last summer, I now work in the Marketing department for a travel company (holding out for those discounts!).

The Cast of Characters

Will: Boyfriend of 3 years and fiance since June 2011. Studies Digital Arts at Chapman (we’re the same age but I’m a year ahead in life), lover of pizza and fried foods. Future professions: Stay-at-home dad and video game developer.

And our baby…

Ms. Anni Fox: My baby girl, my dog. She has been with me and Will since August 2010, an anniversary present from Will. She is a feisty little Chihuahua/Jack Russell/Corgi mutt. She is the queen around the house and she has no problem letting you know that she does not know you and therefore does not like you. Gotta love her!

I’d love to hear from you. Feel free to email me at creatureofhabit.blog@gmail.com
